BETOCX (BayEsian Tools for Observational Cosmology using X-Ray of Galaxy Clusters) is aimed to help
the theoretical physicist community investigate cosmological models
using X-ray gas mass fraction (f_gas) of galaxy clusters as observational data.

BETOCX is a freeware and open source tool
written in the Mathematica
language. The Mathematica
notebooks of BETOCX contain documentation, source code and practical
examples with textual and graphical outputs.

Description

Current features of
BETOCX
(v1.20):

- it is very easy to modify the theoretical cosmological model, except some cases which have non-explicit expressions;
- the Bayesian statistics allows to estimate independent parameters and dependent parameters (or functions of the independent parameters);
- graphical output of 3-dimensional, 2-dimensional and 1-dimensional PDFs;
- global maximization of PDF;
- compatible with Mathematica 4 and 5 (version 6 is forthcoming).

Each BETOCS notebook
contains :

- definitions of the theoretical cosmological model;
- reading of the observational X-ray gas mass fraction of galaxy clusters;
- chi^2 definition;
- Bayesian tools library;
- calculation of the Bayesian PDF;
- global maximization of PDF;
- PDF visualization in 3 dimensions (if available);
- PDF visualization and analysis in 2 dimensions;
- PDF visualization in 1 dimension with (independent
and dependent) parameter estimation.

Pratical uses of BETOCX : articles, etc

- BETOCX v1.20 with 10 independent parameters (eta is fixed at 0.214) for LambdaCDM. Uses the 42 Chandra galaxy clusters dataset (Allen et al, arXiv:0706.0033v1). Part of the ref. [1] analyses.
